ADEAGies Foundation Announces William J. Gies Awards

WASHINGTON, DC (August 3, 2011) —Nominations will be accepted through November 1, 2011, for the 2012 William J. Gies Awards for Vision, Innovation, and Achievement (the Gies Awards). Presented by the ADEAGies Foundation, the Gies Awards recognize exceptional contributions to and support of oral health and dental education around the world. They will be presented at a highly anticipated celebration on March 19 in conjunction with the 2012 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition, which will be held March 17-21 in Orlando, Florida.

The Gies Awards, named after dental education pioneer William J. Gies, Ph.D., have honored individuals and organizations that exemplify dedication to the highest standards of vision, innovation, and achievement in global oral health and dental education, research, and leadership since 2008.

National Associations Collaborate to Create Core Competencies for Graduate Dental Hygiene Education

(Washington, DC)—Educational guidelines for those receiving graduate degrees in dental hygiene have been released from the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and the American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA). The Core Competencies for Graduate Dental Hygiene Education identify eight "core competency domains" or general categories of educational content and establish benchmarks for educational quality, particularly with respect to curriculum development and enhancement.

ADHA Announces 2011-2012 Leadership

Chicago–July 12, 2011–Pamela Quinones, RDH, BS, of Rockville, Md., was installed as the 2011-2012 president of the Chicago-based American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA) on June 21, 2011, at the association's 88th Annual Session held in Nashville, Tenn.

"I am honored to be able to serve as president of the American Dental Hygienists' Association during such a critical juncture for oral health in America," said Quinones. "Right now there is a changing landscape for all oral health care professionals, and dental hygienists will play a key role in shaping the future of the industry and our profession. To be able to help oversee these transformations is a unique and exciting opportunity."
