Pulpdent Welcomes Julia Berk Pirro

Julia Berk Pirro

“The addition of Julia to our executive team marks an exciting moment for Pulpdent and its 78-year history,” says Lew Berk. “Julia has strong business instincts and an authentic interest in patient care. Her experience in healthcare technology and strategic finance gives Pulpdent an added dimension as we pursue sustainable business growth while developing exceptional product choices for our customers. She will make an immediate impact.”

Prior to joining Pulpdent, Berk Pirro held positions at CVS Health as Director of Commercialization and Senior Product Manager. In these roles, she designed and enhanced end-to-end care models, partnering with enterprise and external stakeholders to create cohesive, patient-centric programs. Berk Pirro also gained experience in the public sector during her time at Mathematica Policy Research, where she worked on various CMS public health initiatives, including the Oral Health Initiative. She has worked in leadership roles for startups and nonprofit organizations and holds an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.

“I’m honored to join the leadership team at Pulpdent,” says Berk Pirro. “Pulpdent’s dental products are of world-class quality and manufactured domestically. I am proud to join the team of more than 140 Pulpdent employees who bring those products to market. I’m confident that our product roadmap, coupled with a business development vision that meets the evolving challenges of private- and multi-practice dental settings, will only build upon Pulpdent’s legacy of elevating dental care and the patients who receive it.”

Berk Pirro will be part of the third generation of family leadership at Pulpdent. Berk Pirro’s grandfather, Dr. Harold Berk, founded Pulpdent in 1947 with a vision of “saving teeth and helping patients live in comfort and smile with confidence.” Dr. Berk’s advances in vital pulp therapy set the stage for Pulpdent to become a leader in dental product research and development. Years later, Dr. Berk’s sons committed to full-scale, U.S.-based manufacturing. That choice led to Pulpdent’s rise as a leading producer of dental materials made in Watertown, Massachusetts. As head of operations for the company, Berk Pirro’s father, Donald Berk, was instrumental in this manufacturing evolution and Pulpdent’s growth as a global distributor of solution-based dental products.

“Welcoming Julia to Pulpdent is a special moment for the company,” says Don Berk. “Her passion for leadership and patient care will help ensure the long-term security of our dental research efforts. She will be an advocate for our loyal customers and our outstanding employees. And speaking as a father, to have a daughter choose to bring her joyful spark to a company into which our family has poured so much love—the significance of the moment is impossible to describe.”

Berk Pirro will begin engaging in Pulpdent’s business development immediately, including its global launch of ACTIVA™ BioACTIVE™ Bulk Flow at the International Dental Show in Cologne, Germany, from March 25–29, 2025.

“In my experience with both corporate and community initiatives, I’ve learned that healthcare can be messy,” says Berk Pirro. “But I’m the type of person who likes to get my hands dirty. It’s in the hard work of finding win-win solutions that true healthcare innovation is born. I’m excited to begin that journey today at Pulpdent.”
