LOS ANGELES (March 21, 2011) – The Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry (IALD), a nationally recognized organization dedicated to research, practice and teaching of advanced laser dentistry, is proud to offer a new course to train registered dental hygienists in use of the PerioLase® MVP-7TM digital dental laser-a 6 watt free-running (FR) pulsed Nd:YAG laser, and the only laser approved for use in the unique bone-building gum disease treatment-the LANAP® protocol. "Standard Proficiency Certification for Hygienists on the PerioLase® MVP-7TM for Laser Pocket DisinfectionTM" is offered for CE credit in conjunction with Advanced Laser Training, Inc. The program is an adaptation of the Curriculum Guidelines and Standards for Dental Laser Education as adopted by the IALD.
"This special training course is an excellent opportunity for hygienists to advance their skill sets, while gaining valuable knowledge that will enable them to more fully support patients and the LANAP®-trained clinicians they serve," says Dawn M. "Hygienists are critical to the success of the LANAP® protocol, and through this training, they will help increase positive outcomes for patients’ periodontal health."
The full-day training course will offer IALD Standard Proficiency Certification on the PerioLase® MVP-7TM including instruction in Hygiene Laser Pocket DisinfectionTM[1] (LPD); laser physics and safety; PerioLase® MVP-7TM device review; perio applications including LPD; and other applications including treatment of herpetic lesions, apthous ulcers, biostimulation, and desensitizing teeth; probing technique; case presentation skills; LANAP® protocol overview; occlusion and its role in periodontitis; and hands-on learning in the FiberFlexTM fiber and TrueFlexTM hand-pieces, sterilization techniques and LPD simulation.
Clinicians who are scheduled or have completed LANAP® training on the PerioLase® MVP-7TM can enhance their offerings by sending hygienists to the IALD training course to learn new ways to both support the success of the LANAP® protocol as well as perform other important procedures using the PerioLase® MVP-7TM.
Non-LANAP dentists who have delayed investing in the PerioLase Protocol Package can now consider the added benefit of training additional staff members in the laser dental technology.
Upon satisfactory completion of the course, participants will earn eight ADA-CERP / AGD-PACE approved CE credit hours, IALD Standard Proficiency Certification on the PerioLase® MVP-7 for Hygiene Laser Pocket DisinfectionTM, and Associate Fellowship Certification in the IALD.
