Illinois officials are doing their best to make sure children receive dental treatment prior to the new school year. That’s why the state is offering free dental screenings for children.
Illinois state law makes it mandatory for students entering kindergarten, second and sixth grade to have a dental exam. But other than students entering those grades, it’s essential for all children to have annual dental checkups.
Good oral health leads to good overall health and poor oral health leads to many other problems. According to many studies, oral health problems cause children to lose 51 million hours of school time each year.
The treatment will be provided at a mobile health van at the Illinois state fair. The fair ends August 19.
