Nearly 27,000 dental professionals are expected to attend Yankee Dental Congress, with more than 300 continuing education (CE) courses and more than 450 exhibitors, at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, January 27 to January 31.
The show starts on Wednesday, January 27, with the 2016 Presidential Awards. A. J. Homicz, DDS, will receive the prestigious 2016 Etherington Award. Robert A. Faiella, DMD, will be named Clinician of the Year. Lisa LaSpina, RDH, will be named Hygienist of the Year. Also, the reception and ceremony will recognize 5 other professionals for their contributions to the profession and the community.
On Thursday, January 28, attendees can learn how to take better care of themselves with the Fast Track series about the stresses that come with a dental career. Sessions will explore the warning signs, tools, and resources available to prevent and manage common and mostly avoidable health problems affecting dental personnel and their patients.
Also on Thursday, the Interprofessional Symposium: Body on Fire will discuss the cause and effect of inflammation, from the whole system to the oral cavity. Attendees will discover how nutrition and stress-reducing techniques can help soothe inflammation’s inner burn.
Three tracks of CE courses and events geared to auxiliary personnel will be offered on Friday, January 29: RDH @ Yankee, American Association of Dental Office Managers Day @ Yankee, and Modern Dental Assistant @ Yankee. Each track will let hygienists, office managers, and dental assistants share best practices, navigate challenges, experience new technologies, and network with their peers.
Additionally on Thursday and Friday, more than 200 volunteers will provide free dental services and oral health education to hundreds of kids from the Boston area during the TeamSmile Clinic for Children. It is sponsored by the MDS Foundation and brought to Yankee by TeamSmile, which pairs oral health professionals with professional athletic organizations to provide dental care to underserved children.
Throughout the show, the hall floor will showcase exhibitor products, technologies, and services as well as a host of CE programs, including Product Navigator Live and CBCT Digital Imaging. The Healthy Living Pavilion, Live Dentistry, and the Dental Office Pavilion also will be open.
During the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, Drs. John Minichetti and Matthew Young will lead lectures and hands-on programs including aesthetics, guided surgery, and bone grafting on cadavers. Other specialty symposia will explore orthodontics, pediatrics, endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and osseointegration.
The New Dentist Itinerary for practitioners who graduated from dental school within the past 10 years will offer 8 courses tacking both clinical and management issues, such as Fear Factors of Practice Ownership; Recognition, Management, and Prevention of Dental Erosion; and Targets, Systems, and Scripting. Then during Thursday’s happy hour, young dentists can network, mingle, relax, and have fun.
Attendees looking for entertainment will have plenty to choose from, too. Singers will square off for prizes during the Voices of Yankee on Thursday. Bestselling suspense author Hallie Ephron will discuss her craft on Thursday as well. TV psychic and medium Kim Russo will explore the “other side” on Friday. And on Saturday, image consultant Doreen Dove will teach professionals how best to get in style.
