Align Technology’s 1.5 software upgrade for its iTero Element intraoral scanners can compare patient scans over time with its TimeLapse technology, providing general practitioners and orthodontists with enhanced visualization, assessment, and communication tools. Additionally, with the upgrade, patient scans can be completed in as little as one minute with the same accuracy and reliability that dental professionals have come to expect from iTero scanners, according to the company.

TimeLapse technology lets users compare a patient’s historic 3-D scans to the present-day scan, enabling them to identify and measure orthodontic movement, tooth wear, and gingival recession. This highlights areas of diagnostic interest and helps foster a proactive conversation with the patient regarding potential restorative or orthodontic solutions. Additional software upgrade features include multibite scanning, optimized scan feedback, quick shut-down, and color improvement.
