Zest Dental Solutions is celebrating its 40th anniversary of providing tools for treating edentulous patients. When dental lab owner Max Zuest recognized the problems his clinician customers were experiencing with their patients’ overdentures, he developed the Zest Attachment. In 1977, he and his son Paul officially formed Zest Anchors. The Zest Anchor Advanced Generation (ZAAG) Attachment, designed for all major implant systems, followed in 1994.

Paul took over company operations in 2000. With Scott Mullaly, he developed the LOCATOR Attachment System, which was commercially released in 2001. Since then, more than 100 manufacturers have partnered with Zest to customize the system to be compatible with their respective implant platforms.

The Jordan Group acquired Zest Anchors in 2009. Today, Zest Dental Solutions is a portfolio company of Avista Capital Partners. Steve Schiess serves as president and CEO. Headquartered in Carlsbad, Calif, it has grown to nearly 225 employees with a total facility footprint of 75,000 square feet.

Zest Dental Solutions now provides removable and fixed implant restorative solutions, narrow diameter implant systems, and dental materials and products for overdenture modification and processing. It also acquired Danville Materials and Iveri Whitening to diversify its portfolio and support a continuum of patient care from preserving natural teeth to treating total edentulism.

“Forty years ago, the Zuest family set out to make a difference in patients’ lives,” said Schiess. “I am honored to be part of a company that has made such a large impact in the dental industry, supporting clinicians and ultimately improving patients’ quality of life. I am excited for the bright future Zest has in bringing additional innovations to the dental community.”
