Dentists who were affected by Hurricane Irma can apply for help through the Florida Dental Association (FDA) Foundation’s Emergency Disaster Assistance Grant Program. Funding can be used to support immediate personal needs such as food, water, clothing, emergency shelter, and medication. It may not be used to replace dental practice property, supplies, or salaries.
Grant amounts, which may not exceed $1,500 per dentist, are determined based on completion of an application and available funds. Meanwhile, the ADA Foundation Emergency Disaster Assistance Grant Program is offering up to $2,000 per dentist. Both grants use the same application. Applicants are eligible to receive awards from both organizations.
Applicants do not have to be members of the ADA to receive a disaster grant. Current officers, directors, and employees of the ADA Foundation and their families are not eligible for grants from the organization. Additionally, the FDA Foundation is collecting donations to support the Disaster Relief Fund. Checks made payable to the Foundation may be sent to the FDA Foundation, c/o Fundraising, 1111 E. Tennessee St., Tallahassee, FL 32308. Donors also may call (850) 681-3629, fax the donation form with a credit card number to (850) 561-0504, or contribute via PayPal.
