By now, perhaps you have had the time to read the interview with Dr. Rella Christensen in last month’s issue. (If not, check it out in your print copy of Dentistry Today or online at dentistrytoday.com.) As a researcher and in her experiences as the co-founder of Clinical Research Associates (now CR), Rella shared some unique perspectives on the technological revolution. This month, we are proud to present Dr. Paul Feuerstein in yet another brief look at some of the latest technologies in dentistry. The “interview” with Paul takes the form of a mini roundtable discussion between the 2 of us, as both colleagues and friends. This discussion shares the perspectives of 2 GPs who are living totally different and unique professional lives in their service to patients and the profession.
I remember the first time that I met Paul, our cover star this month. Prior to being introduced by a mutual acquaintance, I had frequently spotted this distinguished-looking gentleman with rather long hair (I suffer from hair envy!) at various meetings that we were either both attending and/or lecturing. When we first talked, I couldn’t help but notice the 45 rpm record adapters adorning a tie accented by a Tweety Bird pin on his lapel (a retro-technology geek too?). He had a genuine smile that lit up the sparkle in both his eyes. Paul reminded me of Emmett “Doc” Brown in Back to the Future. After only a short time, the dental conversation lit up, and I quickly noted that he was eager to share his thoughts and experiences, frequently with a dash of humor. As time moved on, I learned that Paul is a diplomatically opinionated and highly ethical professional who cares deeply about dentistry and, especially, all things related to technology. Fast forward a few years and Paul is now serving as our technology editor, and I could not be happier to have such a fine colleague on the editorial team!
In addition to this roundtable discussion with Paul, we have another great lineup of clinical case report articles this month. In our peer-reviewed CE selection, available for 2 FAGD/MAGD CEUs, Dr. Lisa Efron covers the implications for dental clinicians when treating adolescents with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Please enjoy this exciting issue of Dentistry Today!
