In this month’s issue of Dentistry Today, we focus on dental materials, leading with the cover-featured article by Dr. Richard Trushkowsky et al. This case report article introduces the use of surface glass-infiltration of monolithic zirconia to increase adhesive bond strength for certain minimally invasive applications in dentistry. The main author and both of his coauthors are all highly qualified to present and discuss this new technique as they have all been keenly focused on the study, research, and uses of dental materials in their respective careers. Dr. Trushkowsky is a clinical professor at the New York University (NYU) College of Dentistry, a very distinguished lecturer and prolific author in dentistry, and a Fellow in the Academy of Dental Materials; Dr. Nantawan Kolakarnprasert holds a Master of Science degree in Biomaterials Science from NYU; and the highly recognized Dr. Yu Zhang, with a doctoral degree in Materials Science and Engineering, is an associate professor at NYU.
The innovative technique described in their peer-reviewed CE article, available for 2 FAGD/MAGD CEUs, may provide positive long-term ramifications for those clinicians who are using high-strength monolithic zirconia materials in their practices.
