In this month’s issue of Dentistry Today, we focus on dental materials, leading with the cover-featured article by Dr. Richard Trushkowsky et al. This case report article introduces the use of surface glass-infiltration of monolithic zirconia to increase adhesive bond strength for certain minimally invasive applications in dentistry. The main author and both of his coauthors are all highly qualified to present and discuss this new technique as they have all been keenly focused on the study, research, and uses of dental materials in their respective careers. Dr. Trushkowsky is a clinical professor at the New York University (NYU) College of Dentistry, a very distinguished lecturer and prolific author in dentistry, and a Fellow in the Academy of Dental Materials; Dr. Nantawan Kolakarnprasert holds a Master of Science degree in Biomaterials Science from NYU; and the highly recognized Dr. Yu Zhang, with a doctoral degree in Materials Science and Engineering, is an associate professor at NYU.

The innovative technique described in their peer-reviewed CE article, available for 2 FAGD/MAGD CEUs, may provide positive long-term ramifications for those clinicians who are using high-strength monolithic zirconia materials in their practices. Also in this issue, we have a variety of other excellent clinical article selections that, in one way or another, demonstrate how the thoughtful selection and use of dental materials are absolutely critical to achieving consistent and predictable clinical outcomes. Dental materials will always be evolving, and the clinical implications of all future improvements and innovations are going to be significant to us all. Clinicians and patients alike are absolutely blessed to have dedicated researchers, high-quality manufacturers, and leading clinicians and clinical consultants who all work tirelessly to bring new and improved products to the marketplace. To be sure, the dental materials arena is a highly competitive and exciting space in which industry-wide efforts will continue making dentistry the amazing, noble profession that we all know and love.
