Members of the California Dental Association (CDA) and component dental society executive directors can nominate California-licensed dentists for the 2019 CDA Foundation Humanitarian Award. Nominations are due June 30.
The Humanitarian Award recognizes individuals for a lifetime of volunteer commitment and leadership that have had a broad impact on oral health and the improvement of the human condition or for actions that have enabled the dental profession to respond more fully to the needs of people at the local, state, national, or international level.
Nominees may be active or retired and should exemplify specific humanitarian ideals and attributes, including:
- Significant contributions to efforts to alleviate human suffering and improve the quality of life and oral health of those served
- A lifetime of demonstrated significant leadership and outstanding humanitarian volunteer accomplishments
- A legacy with ongoing value and benefit to others
- A lifetime’s commitment to humanity and selflessness in regard to direct personal or organizational gain or profit
- Interventions and awareness about the impact that illness has on the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual lives of patients and their families
Now in its eleventh year, the Humanitarian Award is one of several grants and awards given annually by the CDA Foundation to support dental professionals and community-based organizations across the state. Herbert Yee, DDS, who practiced dentistry in Sacramento for 54 years, received the 2018 award.
“He had the vision that many of us lack. Along the way, my father’s love for people influenced all who came in contact with him,” said Yee’s son, H. Wesley Yee, DDS, who nominated him for the award.
The 2019 award recipient will be recognized at a CDA event and in various CDA and Foundation publications.
