SmileDirectClub has signed a pair of deals with MetLife and with Unified Smiles to expand access to its remote orthodontic care.
The agreement with MetLife will enable the 20 million patients that the insurance company covers to receive in-network coverage of SmileDirectClub treatment.
“We’re pleased to launch this partnership with MetLife and provide their millions of participants with access to our pioneering teledentistry platform and our premium, American-made clear aligners on an in-network basis,” said SmileDirectClub CEO David Katzman.
“With this partnership, SmileDirectClub’s innovative clear aligner treatment is now covered by almost all major insurance providers in the US. We’re proud to join with MetLife in our mission of making orthodontic care convenient and affordable for everyone,” Katzman said.
MetLife plan participants can start clear aligner treatment with a 3-D scan performed at one of SmileDirectClub’s SmileShops, at a SmileDirectClub Partner Network affiliated dentist or orthodontist office, or with a doctor-prescribed at-home impression kit.
The SmileDirectClub Partner Network now includes Unified Smiles, a dental support organization with hundreds of affiliated dental practices across the United States.
“Unified Smiles is the latest major dental support organization to join SmileDirectClub on its mission to provide everyone with access to a healthier, straighter, and brighter smile through our pioneering telehealth solution for orthodontia,” said Chris Thompson, vice president of the professional channel at SmileDirectClub.
“We are excited to partner with Unified Smiles and their network of dental professionals. We look forward to working together to bring a new segment of consumers access to a straighter smile that they can afford, starting at their dentist’s office,” said Thompson.
“Unified Smiles and our affiliated dental practices are proud to partner with SmileDirectClub, enabling us to offer an innovative way for patients to get a smile that they’ll love through teledentistry,” said Kevin Burniston, vice president of sales at Unified Smiles.
“Unified Smiles has grown as an organization based on our extensive knowledge of dentistry and by offering products and services proven to ensure dentists and their patients thrive. We are pleased to add clear aligner therapy with SmileDirectClub as a service that will help bring new patients to our affiliated dental practices,” said Burniston.
According to SmileDirectClub, regardless of where or how treatment begins, it is prescribed and monitored remotely by state-licensed dentists and orthodontists using the company’s teledentistry platform.
