As part of its mission to foster the highest ideals of research, the Osseointegration Foundation said, it is providing important financial support to four dental professionals pursuing groundbreaking dental implant research.
Recipients of these grants, up to $30,000 each in basic and applied science categories, presented their findings as part of the AO Research Award session during the Academy of Osseointegration’s 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting.
The grant recipients also are expected to submit manuscripts to the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants.
The AO recognized individual winners from last year and this year during its 2021 Virtual Meeting because last year’s meeting was canceled due to the pandemic. Recipients include:
- 2020 Basic Science Research Grant: Michele Stocchero, DDS, PhD, a private practitioner and adjunct researcher at Malmo University, for “Effect of Drilling Preparation on the Cortical Bone Around Implants Subjected to Immediate Mechanical Load”
- 2021 Basic Science Research Grant: Sahar Ansari, MSc, PhD, for “A Novel Growth Factor-free Adhesive Hydrogel Delivery System for Enhanced Bone Tissue Engineering Applications”
- 2020 Applied Science Research Grant: Irina Dragan, DDS, MS, of the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, for “Using Digital Implant Planning in Assessing Outcomes of Maxillary Sinus Augmentation Procedures: A Retrospective Study”
- 2021 Applied Science Research Grant: Elena Calciolari, DDS, MS(Perio), PhD, senior clinical lecturer at Queen Mary University of London and the University of Parma, for “The Effect of Osteoporosis on Osseointegration and Bone Regeneration”
