A well-trained, motivated, and competent dental team contributes to patient safety and public confidence in dental services, according to the United Kingdom’s General Dental Council (GDC), which has released “Supporting the Dental Team,” an online resource for employers, managers, and contractors of dental services.
Employers and managers of dental professionals who may not be GDC registrants play a key role in ensuring patients benefit from high standards of service and care, the GDC said. While the organization said it recognizes that much good work already is taking place to meet these goals in all kinds of dental settings, the new guide is designed to complement and support those efforts, pulling together useful information from a range of places.
“While the GDC does not regulate dental businesses, working alongside our stakeholders we saw a gap in the information and support that was available to dental team managers and employers,” said GDC head of public policy Osama Ammar.
“By providing this additional information in one place, we felt we could assist them in their understanding of the professional responsibilities of the dental team and encourage activities that will enhance patient care,” Ammar said.
“I’d like to thank the many stakeholders who worked with us on this project, and we look forward to further developing the resource in the coming years,” Ammar said.
In addition to information to support dental professionals in understanding and meeting their regulatory responsibilities, the GDC said, the resource also covers the well-being of the dental team and how to handle feedback and concerns.
