The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) has moved its Annual Session 2022 from Honolulu to Miami. The meeting is now scheduled for May 21 to May 24, 2022.
In May, the State of Hawaii informed the AAO that a significant amount of space inside the Hawaii Convention Center would not be available to groups through the end of 2022.
“While we know that many members and their teams were looking forward to the trip to Honolulu, we are simply unable to deliver an experience that meets our high standards under these restrictions,” said AAO president Dr. Ken Dillehay.
“In just a few short weeks, AAO leadership and staff have been able to find and secure a new location that meets all of our requirements, a task that typically takes months to complete and often occurs nine or 10 years in advance,” Dillehay said.
Dillehay touted Miami’s rich history, culture of hospitality, and white sandy beaches and said he expects the city to deliver an extraordinary meeting experience.
“After two all-virtual Annual Sessions, we wanted to be sure that 2022 would be the year that our members could celebrate together again,” he said.
In addition to three and a half days of orthodontic education, the AAO said, the Annual Session will offer networking opportunities, awards, and a post-conference event.
