The British Dental Association (BDA) recognized 16 individuals in its 2021 BDA Honours and Awards for their outstanding achievements, their commitment to the BDA, and their work for the dental profession, according to the organization.
“It is fantastic to see such a wide range of dentists nominated for our awards this year,” said Roz McMullan, chair of the BDA’s Honours and Awards Committee.
The BDA recognized Eddie Crouch, Martin Fulford, Jonathan Randall, and Peter Ward with Fellowship awards. It also recognized Trevor Burke with the John Tomes Award.
Life Membership was conferred upon Jude Anderson, Bridget Ashton, John Glen, Gill Greenwood, Pam Norman, Neil Oastler, Ivan Simmonds, Damien Walmsley, and Brian Williams.
Shareena Ilyas was honored with the Certificate of Merit for Services to the Profession. And, Ian Morley was named to the Roll of Distinction.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted right across dentistry, and we know this has been an exceptionally tough year for everyone, so we feel it is just as important as ever that we recognize those who have gone the extra mile for dentistry,” said McMullan.
“We know so many members, and not just those with official roles at the BDA, have given long hours and expert knowledge during the pandemic, and we are keen to ensure their achievements and efforts are acknowledged,” McMullan said.
“During 2021, we want to find dentists who have shown a commitment to advancing dentistry. We strongly encourage nominations from all areas of the profession. Please consider putting forward a colleague/s who you think deserve recognition for what they do,” said McMullan.
The deadline for the next round of nominations is May 28, 2021.
