BIOLASE Inc. has signed a development and distribution agreement with IPG Medical, which is the medical laser division of IPG Photonics Corp. The deal covers several projects in various stages of development that are expected to culminate in commercialized joint laser products, accessories, or integral system components.

The companies also will collaborate in the design and development of these new products and applications. BIOLASE will be responsible for United States and international registrations of all dental products that result and will have exclusive worldwide commercial distribution rights for certain products over a multi-year initial term after development.

“This partnership brings with it significant opportunity to advance our product designs and our supply chain, ultimately to provide a broader, deeper, and more capable portfolio of laser-based solutions to dental practitioners globally,” said Harold C. Flynn, Jr., president and CEO of BIOLASE.

“This partnership with BIOLASE fits very well with IPG’s strategic development and desire to build our medical application business,” said Dr. Gregory Altshuler, president of IPG Medical. “BIOLASE’s established dental channels deepen our distribution capabilities in this area and leverage our patented dental laser technology and platforms.”
