Some people in North Carolina spent hours waiting on line last week. They had no other choice, since this was their only opportunity to receive the dental treatment they desperately needed.

The North Carolina Dental Society held a free dental clinic Friday and Saturday and treated about 2,700 people. It was the largest free dental clinic ever staged by the N.C. Missions of Mercy.

According to the clinic’s organizers, the people who qualified ended up receiving about $1 millions worth of dental care. The event started on Friday morning and continued for 36 hours.

The event took place at the Charlotte Convention Center. Many people were forced to camp out to ensure they would receive treatment. Hundreds of people had to be turned away.

The most common procedure done was a tooth extraction, but root canals, among other procedures, were also performed.

There were more than 1,000 dentists, oral surgeons, hygienists and people from the surrounding communities that made the event possible.
