COMPANY

A world-wide successful dental specialist

COLTENE is a global leader in dental consumables and small equipment covering the whole dental treatment process. Dentists and dental labs worldwide rely on the company’s products for implant-based therapies and dental reconstructions, as well as traditional therapies.

COLTENE is a Swiss public company traded on the SIX Swiss Stock Exchange under the symbol CLTN.

COLTENE has been the leading developer and manufacturer of high-precision impression materials and innovative, aesthetically-pleasing filling materials since the mid-sixties. In 1990, the Swiss Coltène AG joined forces with the American company Whaledent Inc., a producer of technical dental consumables established in 1956 in New York. Since then, the combined Coltène/Whaledent brand has brought polymer chemistry-based impression and filling materials, a broad range of high-precision mechanical instruments, dental pins and posts, carbide and diamond burs and other rotary instruments, as well as a comprehensive offering in the area of hygiene and patient safety, to international markets through sales partners.

COLTENE has state-of-the-art production facilities in Switzerland, the United States, Germany and Hungary.

Technical centers of competence for manufacturing
COLTENE products, combining essential core technologies, continuing innovation, and fine design, are manufactured at three centers of competence: Cuyahoga Falls (Ohio, USA), Langenau (Germany) and Altstätten (Switzerland). The polymer/chemistry products and consumables are concentrated in Switzerland, while the mechanical/technical products and dental instruments are mainly manufactured in the United States. Rotary instruments, such as burs and grinders, are produced on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

The American company Coltène/Whaledent Inc. (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) specializes in root canal points, self-threading parapulpal pins, products for model-making in the dental lab, orthodontic instruments (Dentronix), patient safety/hygiene products (Hygenic), and small table-top equipment.

In 2002, COLTENE acquired the German company ROEKO and completed its polymer/chemistry product range of impression and filling materials with high-quality wadding products, highly-absorbent and resilient paper, and gutta percha points to effectively remove fluids and moisture during the preparation process of a root canal, as well as other consumables.

With the acquisition of Cutting Edge Instruments (Bridgewater Corners, Vermont) in 2007, COLTENE expanded its range of diamdond rotary instruments manufactured in Switzerland with carbide burs.

In 2009, a significant stake in the Brazilian company Vigodent gave COLTENE access to production capacities in South America.
