Henry Schein has extended the application deadline for the fourth annual Henry Schein Cares Medal program to midnight Eastern time on October 24, 2018. The program honors nonprofit organizations in oral health and medicine that demonstrate excellence in expanding access to care for people in need.

A panel of expert judges from the medical, philanthropy, social entrepreneurship, and business sectors will select three finalists among applicants from the fields of oral health and medicine. Each finalist will receive a $10,000 cash award through the support of the Henry Schein Cares Foundation.

“We at Henry Schein have long supported the people and organizations who are dedicated to serving the underserved, and we hope extending the deadline affords eligible applications enough time to submit their entries,” said Jennifer Kim Field, vice president, corporate social responsibility for Henry Schein and executive director of the Henry Schein Cares Foundation.

Applicants must be nonprofit organizations or trusts that are public charities and tax-exempt under IRS  Section 501(c)(3). They should demonstrate that their program has expanded access to healthcare for the underserved in an novel and innovative way that is measurable and quantifiable. Emphasis will be placed on expanding access to healthcare for children.

Programs also should involve an established multidisciplinary team that demonstrates the expertise needed for a comprehensive solution to expand access to care; demonstrate potential for replication and large-scale impact through data and measurement; and include a business plan or demonstration of financial sustainability.

Finalists will be announced in February 2019. The medals will be awarded at a date and location to be determined in 2019.
