A new proposal in Wisconsin would permit dentists to change insurance coverage contracts to charge more for certain procedures.
The powerful business lobby and Republican-controlled legislature are at odds over this issue.
The Assembly was set to vote on this issue Wednesday.
Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce put together a letter to lawmakers pleading for the bill to be shot down.
The letters claims that the state’s ability to promote competitiveness would be altered by the fact that the state would be selecting winners and losers in private business contracts.
If passed, the bill would surely result in changes to current contracts involving dentists and insurance companies because the insurance companies would no longer have to require dentists to charge less for some procedures.
According to the Wisconsin Dental Association, the proposal would fix the current practice of large insurance companies in which they control the costs for some services that aren’t even covered.
