The Western University Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry has received a $1 million gift from dentalcorp to support five courses in the Continuing Dental Education (CDE) program, establish the dentalcorp speaker series, and sponsor the Schulich Dentistry Alumni Reception. The award also will direct nearly $600,000 toward Schulich Dentistry’s highest priority needs, helping Western better support students.
“We are incredibly grateful to dentalcorp for their generosity,” said Davy Cheng, MD, MSc, acting dean of Schulich Dentistry. “They have enabled us to increase educational offerings for students and faculty and support new opportunities to engage with Schulich Dentistry alumni. Their gift of undesignated funds ensures that resources are available to meet urgent needs in the learning and clinical environments within Schulich Dentistry.”
The dentalcorp speaker series will begin this fall and take place annually for the next five years. Available to current students and alumni, it will consist of 10 lectures by industry professionals and experts per academic year.
The gift also will support one new CDE course each academic year for the next five years. Designed to help advance dentistry by bolstering the personal and professional growth of students and alumni, topics will include practice management, patient care, and the business of dentistry.
“We are thrilled to partner with Western and the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry to help provide an enriched learning experience for emerging and experienced clinicians alike,” said Graham Rosenberg, dentalcorp founder and CEO. “We know we are partnering with a leading academic institution that shares our commitment to advancing the field of dentistry and increasing access to care.”
As a result of the donation, Schulich Dentistry has renamed its student lounge in honor of the company. Launched in September 2011, the dentalcorp network of dental clinics has 400 locations, 7,000 team members, and more than 3.3 million annual patient visits.
