The ADA estimates that 3,850 dentists in Texas were affected by Hurricane Harvey. Now, the Texas Dental Association (TDA) is reaching out to the broader professional community to ask for assistance in helping them get through the crisis, rebuild their practices, and begin treating patients who need care in the devastated region.
Dentists and other concerned people can contribute online to the TDA Relief Fund, which was established to provide financial assistance to members of the dental profession who have immediate, basic needs such as food, water, clothing, medicine and medical supplies, and shelter as the result of a natural disaster or catastrophe such as Harvey.
Alternatively, donations can be sent to the Texas Dental Association, 1946 South IH-35, Suite 400, Austin, Texas 78704. Checks should be payable to “TDA Relief Fund” with “disaster relief” written in the memo space. Donors also can contribute via credit card by calling the TDA office at (800) 832-1145 and speaking with the Finance Department.
Meanwhile, dentists with those immediate needs can apply to the TDA’s Disaster Relief Grant Program. Awards may range up to $1,500, depending on the number of applicants and the amount of available funds. Applicants do not need to be members of the ADA to be eligible. Requests must be made within 60 days of the disaster.
