Aesthetics: A Cerebral Challenge

This month, we are proud to have Dr. Wynn Okuda, from the very beautiful and aesthetic state of Hawaii, sharing a discussion on how important innovative thinking is to successful cosmetic outcomes.

Wynn served as the president of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) from 2002 to 2003 and is a board-accredited member and Fellow in this prestigious organization. Having worked with Wynn on this month’s submission, I can tell you that he is a kind gentleman with an obvious, “aloha spirit” at the heart of his work and relationships! This can be found in his dedication to those who need a helping hand, as Wynn is the co-founder of the Give Back a Smile program. This national charitable foundation of the AACD helps survivors of domestic violence restore their smiles, an important step in the healing process for these patients. If we could follow Wynn’s lead in building meaningful relationships with our patients, dedicating the time to thoroughly diagnose and think through each complex aesthetic case in advance of the actual clinical work, everyone would benefit, and our noble profession of dentistry would become much more than a job. That would be a beautiful thing, right?

In addition to Dr. Okuda’s clinical case report, we have a wonderful lineup of authors who are also kind enough to share their time, talents, and thoughts with our readers. We truly appreciate all of our contributing authors and welcome new authors to join in!

Continuing throughout the rest of 2018, Dr. Phil Bonner, our esteemed CE editor, will continue to ensure that Dentistry Today offers an informative selection of excellent peer-reviewed CE articles. In this issue, Mr. George Vincel et al share a case report that demonstrates the diagnosis and treatment of a complete longitudinal sagittal mesiodistal fracture of a mandibular molar. This peer-reviewed clinical article is available for 2 FAGD/MAGD CEUs.

We sincerely hope that you professionally and personally benefit from yet another exciting issue of Dentistry Today!
