EAO reshuffles its structure and board

Brussels, November 9, 2010 – The European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) has announced a new board and committee structure. The association has a new President and three new board members. They will be supported by five committees.

Dr. Paul Stone (UK) takes over as President of the EAO from Prof. Christoph Hämmerle (Switzerland). This is the first time that EAO has a British President.

The new President Elect is Prof. Søren Schou (Denmark), who will take over the Presidency in 2012.

Prof. Pascal Valentini (France) is the new Secretary General and Prof. Marc Quirynen (Belgium) remains Treasurer of EAO.

The three new board members are Prof. Luca Cordaro (Italy), Prof. Henning Schliephake (Germany) and Prof. Alberto Sicilia Felechosa (Spain).

Prof. Luca Cordaro is Head of the Department of Periodontology and Prosthodontics at the Eastman Dental Hospital in Rome, Italy. He also has a private practice in Rome in partnership with his brother.

Prof. Henning Schliephake is Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Georg-August Universität in Göttingen, Germany.

Prof. Alberto Sicilia Felechosa is Professor of Periodontology and Director of the “Master in Periodontology” of the University of Oviedo in Spain. He is Medical Director of Clinica Sicilia, a private practice dedicated to periodontology and implant surgery.

Prof. Friedrich Neukam (Germany), Past President, and former Board members Prof. Carlo Maiorana (Italy) and Prof. Jaime Gil (Spain) have stepped down.

The EAO board is now supported by five committees. The Congress Committee is in charge of organising the annual congress which next year takes place in Athens from October 12th to 15th. The Abstract Committee is responsible for the selection of scientific submissions for the congresses.

The Junior Committee consists of top young international implant dentists and researchers who work together to support the activities of the Board.

The Certification Committee coordinates the new EAO certificate programme in implant dentistry, which is the first European assessment of its kind.

The Consensus Conference Committee organises the invitational meetings which discuss specific topics related to implant dentistry. The results are compiled and usually published in the Clinical Oral Implants Research Journal.

The Communications Committee is responsible for enhancing awareness of the EAO and raising the profile of the association as the European reference in implant dentistry.
