The profusion of adhesive materials can boggle the clinical mind. There are more than 200 adhesive products available to practitioners today, leading to many questions: Which one to use? Under what conditions? For which indications? Is it better to stock a different bonding agent for every major indication and procedure? 3M ESPE has introduced Scotchbond Universal Adhesive, a single-bottle solution for all dental surfaces that can be used predictably in total-etch, self-etch, or selective-etch procedures. It offers the clinician the confidence to adhere methacrylate-based restoratives, cements, and sealants to dentin, enamel, indirect restorative materials, and glass ionomers without requiring an additional primer. Its primary indication is for use with light-cured materials. With the addition of the 3M ESPE Dual Cure Activator, it adheres to self-cure and dual-cure composites, including cements. It forms a strong bond that seals the dentinal surface for self-etch and total-etch procedures, protecting the dentin by eliminating open tubules that can cause sensitivity. It can also be used as a desensitizer for patients who do not require a restoration. There is virtually no postoperative sensitivity. Scotchbond Universal Adhesive’s high-moisture tolerance permits adhesion to both moist and dry dentin. The dispensing bottle has an innovative flip-top cap design permitting the operator to open and dispense with one hand. The material is also available in unit dose. With a 2-year shelf life and no refrigeration required, the orange Scotchbond vial protects the photo initiators inside from ambient light and—when held up to a bright light—indicates the remaining level of the adhesive fluid. Scotchbond Universal Adhesive is an adhesive for all procedures. |
