Bryn Mawr, PA – September 19, 2012 – This fall, Harcum College’s Office of Continuing Studies is offering both credit and noncredit courses for dental professionals. All courses are held on Harcum’s Bryn Mawr, PA campus and are conveniently scheduled during evening and weekend hours to accommodate working adults.
During its Homecoming weekend on Saturday, October 13, 2012, Harcum is offering two continuing education courses for dentists, expanded function assistants and hygienists. The courses – “ABCs of Restorative Procedures: Adhesion, Bands and Composite” and “Xylitol: A Perfect Match for All…Reduce Plaque and Stop Decay” – will each grant two continuing education credits (CEUs) to registered participants.
For Expanded Function Dental Assistants (EFDAs), Harcum will be offering a course in Coronal Polishing on Monday, October 15, 2012; Saturday, January 26, 2013; and Wednesday, March 13, 2013. The course, which grants three CEUs, will instruct participants on types of stain, equipment options and product recommendation through a hands-on clinic experience.
EFDAs can also participate in a 15-week course designed to introduce the basics of restorative dentistry. Held on Saturdays beginning January 19, 2013, the course has various prerequisites, including current CPR certification, a Pennsylvania radiology certification, successful completion of assessment test and current employment in a restorative dental practice.
Students planning to take the DANC Radiation and Health Safety exam are encouraged to take a ten-hour prep course for four Tuesdays beginning November 6, 2012. The Dental Radiology Review class provides an overview of theory and principles to help students prepare for the exam or refresh dental professionals returning to clinical practice.
In addition, Harcum will also be hosting its 7th Annual Dental Expo on Saturday, March 2, 2013. The all-day event offers six CEUs for various dental professionals, including dentists, dental assistants, EFDAs, dental hygienists and dental office managers.
