The Dawson Academy has promoted senior faculty member Leonard Hess, DDS, to clinical director. Hess is the owner of Union County Center for Comprehensive Dentistry in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he practices full time in addition to teaching continuing education courses.

Also, Hess is a member of the editorial board for Inside Dentistry and has had more than 17 articles published in peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the ADA, the AES, and the North Carolina Dental Society.

Hess began teaching continuing education courses in 2005, including topics such as occlusion, smile design, treatment planning, preparation design, and practice integration of complete dentistry. Also, he has taught full-day courses at dental national meetings as well as internationally.

“We are fortunate to have someone of Dr. Hess’s caliber and experience step up to lead the Dawson Academy,” said Joan Forrest, president of the Dawson Academy. “Dr. Hess is a visionary with a proven track record of execution. He is a strong communicator with deep leadership capabilities.”

“I am deeply honored and excited to lead the Dawson Academy. I believe the Dawson Academy is the premiere postgraduate educational and clinical research facility dedicated to the advancement of dentistry,” said Hess.

Hess succeeds John Cranham, DDS, who stepped down as clinical director for 13 years to practice with his daughter, who recently graduated from dental school and joined his practice.
