The American College of Prosthodontics (ACP) has named Rodney D. Phoenix, DDS, MS, the winner of its 2018 Major General Bill B. Lefler Federal Services Award. Named for a 34-year military veteran and dedicated member and Fellow of the ACP, the award recognizes excellence in leadership, patient care, mentorship, and community service.
“I am truly honored to receive this award and would like to thank those who were central to my personal and professional development, especially my longtime Air Force colleagues, residency classmates, and graduate prosthodontic instructors,” said Phoenix. “Their service to our nation is noteworthy, and their impact upon our profession is incalculable.”
Phoenix also retired from the Air Force after a 34-year career, including active and reserve service, as a colonel. During his time in the military, he was program director for the Air Force Graduate Prosthodontics Residency Program and military consultant for prosthodontics to the Assistant Surgeon General for Dental Services.
A graduate of the Ohio State University College of Dentistry, Phoenix earned a Certificate in Prosthodontics from Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, a master of science in prosthodontics from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and a Certificate in Dental Biomaterials from the University of Florida.
Phoenix currently serves as associate dean for dental research at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. He is a Fellow of the ACP, Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, and a published author.
