The Dentsply Sirona Bovendeert (DSB) University Research Award 2019/2020 is now open for submissions. Each year, the award recognizes outstanding clinical and translational research by orthodontic residents at universities throughout Europe and the Middle East.

Each orthodontic department can submit one research project for consideration. Winners will be announced and formally recognized during the European Postgraduate Student of Orthodontics Society (EPSOS) annual meeting in June 2020.

There will be first, second, and third prizes, each consisting of a cash award for the resident student and an equipment grant to the department. The DSB Research Grant is sponsored by Dentsply Sirona Orthodontics Europe as part of its commitment to promote and recognize outstanding scientific achievements in orthodontics.

“Supporting excellent research is of high importance to us, since research drives innovation and ultimately helps us to provide the best possible care for our patients,” said Brigit Moeller, vice president of clinical affairs, CAD/CAM, and orthodontics at Denstply Sirona.

“We are happy to announce that the abstract submission is now open, and we are very much looking forward to receiving plenty of outstanding applications from resident students across Europe and the Middle East,” said Moeller.

Each orthodontic department can submit one research project completed by a 2019/2020 resident. Previously published research is not eligible for submission. The research project should be selected and submitted by the department chair or program director.

Submissions are in the form of 300-word abstracts detailing the background, aim of the study, research design, results, and conclusions. All abstracts received by May 3, 2020, will be considered for the award.

An independent panel of three orthodontic educators will blind review the abstracts and determine the winners. Judgement will be based on originality, innovation, relevance, validity of research design, and outcome. The winners will be notified before June 1, 2020.
