Quip is launching quipcare, a platform designed to redefine the way people browse, book, and pay for professional dental care. Quip members can download the app for free, browse dental services at set rates that are 30% to 40% less than average rates in their area, find and book a service with a dental professional from a curated network, and pay for visits with one tap, the company reports. Quipcare also helps patients manage their treatment records and offers rewards for checkups to help quip members focus on prevention rather than treatment.
Whether they are insured and have hit their annual maximum, are looking for treatments not covered under insurance, or don’t want a monthly plan, quipcare members can use the app for free and pay as they go for treatments. Members also can upgrade to quipcare+ for $25 per month as an alternative to traditional benefits, which includes two preventive checkups and x-rays annually for $200 less than if booked through pay as you go quipcare, as well as the same non-preventive rates as quipcare.
“One quarter of Americans don’t have dental insurance. One third of those with insurance haven’t visited their dentist in over a year. Whether insured or not, people aren’t getting the professional care they need. The reasons why are multiple. People view dental care and insurance costs as unclear and expensive, the process of booking and paying for care inconvenient, and the experience of visiting a dentist often an unenjoyable or sometimes feared experience,” said Simon Enever, CEO and cofounder of quip.
“We’ve spent years making at-home oral care more simple, affordable, and enjoyable for millions of people. Now, we are excited to apply that same ethos to reshape professional dental care with a simple modern app,” said Enever.
“Great oral health is achieved by combining a healthy at-home routine with consistent professional care, and quip is now the first consumer oral care company to offer both personal and professional care, making it easier and more enjoyable for people to take proper care of their mouths,” said Dr. Jeffrey Rappaport, director of care at quip.
“Dental care premiums aren’t regulated like they are in healthcare, meaning profit margins of traditional plans can be big, so patient rates are high and provider reimbursement low. With quipcare, we help patients pay providers more directly, so they can pay less and the provider can keep more, leading to better health outcomes and happier patients and professionals,” said Rappaport.
Quipcare will roll out in New York City this summer and expand across the United States in 2020. As the platform grows through partnerships with individual practices and dental groups, quip will also expand its list of services offered through its professional network, which is now focused on prevention, treatments, and restoration, as well as offer more plans and payment options and tools to suit different individual and employer needs.
