Formlabs’ Castable Wax Resin is now available for dental indications, including crowns, bridges, and removable partial dentures using patterns printed on the company’s Form 2 3-D printer. Tested at length with dental technicians, the company says, Castable Wax Resin provides accurate, sealed margins and includes 20% wax for reliable casting with clean, reliable one-hour burnout. Printed patterns are strong enough to handle with no post-cure required, Formlabs says, for a faster, simpler workflow. After a quick wash in isopropyl alcohol, parts are clean and ready to invest with no residual tackiness, the company adds.
The Formlabs workflow is designed to be the most intuitive solution for incorporating 3-D printed patterns into existing casting and pressing processes. Users can nest their digitally designed restorations for printing in the company’s PreForm software, send the prepared job to the Form 2, and print. Then, they can set up their investment and cast or press the part as usual. An application guide provides design guidelines, burnout schedules, and a step-by-step look at working with Castable Wax Resin. Tested and developed by dental technicians, Castable Wax Resin improves efficiency while producing high-quality restorations in house, Formlabs says.
