Designed to be used as supplemental protection in conjunction with a face mask, goggles, and other personal protective equipment (PPE), the 9- by 16-inch Carestream Shield aims to protect healthcare workers from exposure to infection. It is designed to safeguard the eyes, nose, and mouth from acutely expelled aerosols of bodily fluid.
The breathable and lightweight Carestream Shield features an adjustable visor and flexible baseball-cap straps for a personalized fit, the company said. Also, its forehead cushion provides a soft and slip-resistant contact point, eliminating the need to adjust the system during patient visits, according to the company.
The face shield also reduces the buildup of fog and sweat, which often occur with face masks, through an opening at the top that allows hot air from the body to ventilate away from the face. It is designed to be reusable and easy to disassemble, carry, store, and disinfect as well. And, the shield is replaceable to maintain visibility and help limit the spread of infection.
The Carestream Shield is available in two distance-from-face options. The standard model, nearly two inches from the forehead, provides protection without sacrificing mobility, the company said. The extended model, 2.5 inches from the forehead, enables users to also wear bulky eyewear or PPE such as dental loupes, glasses, goggles, and larger respirators.
