Dr. Michael Skinner, a private practitioner and endodontist from Brentwood, Tenn, presents a short segment of the procedure to reduce the room between the lip and gum line on a young female patient’s smile. Dr. Skinner initially uses a CO2 laser to mark the periodontal areas, as the goal is to remove 1.5 mm of tissue to close the gap of lip and gum, and reduce the separation while smiling.
A connective tissue graft is used before closing the operative focal area. The before and after slide shows that the procedure’s goal was achieved with less of a “gummy smile” on the patient.
