EthOss Regeneration Ltd has been honored by the government of the United Kingdom with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2021 in the International Trade category. The company is one of 205 organizations nationally to be recognized by the award, which celebrates outstanding achievement by UK businesses.

“We’re incredibly proud to have been recognized with the prestigious Queen’s Award in International Trade,” said Dr. Paul Harrison, EthOss managing director.

EthOss was founded in 2013 by dental surgeon Dr. Peter Fairbairn and biomaterial product development specialist Dr. Paul Harrison. Together, they developed EthOss, a synthetic biomaterial used during dental implant surgery to encourage new bone to grow and support the implant.

The material uses a built-in calcium sulphate binder designed to help stabilize the graft and prevent soft-tissue ingress, eliminating the need for an added collagen membrane. Also, it is 100% synthetic, so there’s no risk of cross-contamination with human or animal content.

Additionally, EthOss is fully absorbed into the body as it is replaced by new healthy host bone, the company said, up to 50% in as little as 12 weeks. Full resorption usually occurs in six to 12 months, the company said. In addition to dental extraction sites in dental implant treatment, EthOss can be used to treat infrabony defects and in alveolar ridge augmentation.

Previously, the company said, surgeons used a material including animal product for these applications, usually bone harvested from cows, pigs, and horses. EthOss Regeneration Ltd said it aims to grow a more ethical approach to dental implantology worldwide.

“Exports now account for 58% of our total turnover, and in August 202 we saw our busiest export month ever. We recently signed partnerships with distributors in France, Turkey, Chile, Kuwait, Latvia, and Moldovia, with EthOss now being sold in more than 50 countries worldwide,” said Harrison.

“The continued hard work of our team has seen us continue to grow year on year, and we’re extremely honored that this has been celebrated with such a renowned and well-respected award,” said Harrison.
