WATERTOWN, MA: November 13, 2010 – Pulpdent Corporation donated Embrace WetBond Pit & Fissure Sealant, Etch-Rite Etching Gel and Flecta Disposable Mirrors for a sealant day at the dental clinic at Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville, NC on October 22. Each dental hygienist worked with a volunteer registered dental hygienist or dental assistant to place dental sealants on 38 children from Northwoods Elementary School. The team of volunteers and students placed 195 sealants. The sealant day in Jacksonville was one of many across the country that Pulpdent has supported with product donations.
“It was a great day,” says Catherine Cotter, RDH, MEd., who teaches community dental health at Coastal Carolina Community College. “With the help of Pulpdent’s donations and our many volunteers from the Onslow County Dental Society and Coastal Carolina Dental Hygiene Association, nearly 200 children from Onslow County were able to get sealants. In a time when the community college budget is limited, it is donations from companies like Pulpdent that make these community service projects possible.”
Pulpdent has provided sealants to other programs like the one in Jacksonville. “We believe that the key to good oral health in adults is the placement of dental sealants in childhood,” says Fred Berk of Pulpdent. “Because Embrace does not require a dry field, Embrace WetBond sealants can be placed quickly, a real advantage when dealing with children and working at school-based programs.” The company has even developed a public health kit that includes sealants, supplies, posters, and “Embracelets” that can be given out to children as a reward for participating in the program.
