3M ESPE Dental scored big at the 2015 BIG Awards for Business. Its True Definition Scanner was named one of the top 5 New Products of the Year by the program’s sponsor, the Business Intelligence Group.

“Ambition, focus, and execution are all characteristics of this year’s winners,” said Russ Fordyce, managing director of the Business Intelligence Group. “Our judges were inspired by the people behind the great performances and those who led these organizations to excel.”

“The 3M True Definition Scanner was designed to provide advanced digital oral care and truly accurate results, so it’s a special honor to receive an award that recognizes its benefits to patients and doctors,” said C.J. Hughley, global category manager at 3M Oral Care. “This technology furthers our ultimate goal of improving the oral health of patients worldwide.”

The True Definition Scanner is a complete hardware and software system. It supports open STL files so clinicians can work with their orthodontic lab, design, and mill chairside or share files with other partners for expanded clinical solutions. Its 3D-in-motion video technology also provides extraordinary detail with industry leading accuracy, according to the company, for more control and consistency than traditional processes.

Furthermore, the scanner’s secure, cloud-based digital hub lets clinicians store and share unlimited patient scans. The 3M Connection Center allows for the seamless and secure transfer of digital impression files from the True Definition Scanner to the Unitek Treatment Management Portal | TMP. This provides a full digital workflow for Incognito Appliances, including precise 3-D setup review, overlay capabilities, and enhanced measurement and analysis tools.

Systems are delivered fully calibrated with no routine maintenance or calibration required. Each comes with a lightweight, intraoral, handheld and ergonomic wand that’s balanced for comfort. With its specialized video imaging technology, the scanner can produce a true replica of the oral anatomy from real-time video data for highly accurate quadrant and full arch scans, according to 3M ESPE Dental. Its HP Workstation has a touchscreen display and a high-performance CPU. And, its streamlined rolling cart facilitates easy transport.
