Sonendo has acquired PIPStek, including all of the intellectual property for its Photon Induced Photoacoustic Streaming (PIPS) laser technologies. PIPStek will continue as a standalone company and will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Sonendo.

Sonendo’s GentleWave System will continue to be the company’s only offering for root canal therapy. Sonendo will not be commercializing a PIPS-based therapy for endodontics. According to the company, the GentleWave procedure shows significant improvement in clinical efficacy compared to standard root canal treatments.

“We are excited about this acquisition and the road ahead. PIPStek and PIPS technologies will help pave the way for other opportunities in dentistry beyond endodontics,” said Bjarne Bergheim, president and CEO of Sonendo.

“We are also excited that Enrico DeVito, DDS, will be joining the Sonendo team to support our customers and help us develop technologies for other areas in dentistry that improve clinical efficacy and treatment efficiency,” Bergheim said.

“Bjarne and I share a common passion for developing transformative technologies for the dental profession that improve patient outcomes, and I look forward to joining the Sonendo team,” said DeVito, former CEO of PIPStek.
