Our cover-featured author this month is Dr. Tyler Wynne. I first met Tyler at a meeting of the American Society for Dental Aesthetics (ASDA) in Miami. He and I, along with a good number of other Dentistry Today authors and Dentistry Today’s Leaders in Continuing Education, belong to the ASDA and benefit from the heartfelt comradery and shared learning experiences at the meetings. I was immediately impressed with Tyler’s zeal for dentistry and soon recognized that his focus was on making a real difference for all of his patients. His article in this issue outlines the treatment of a patient who presented with amelogenesis imperfecta. This case report shows that coordinated teamwork is required to create the best possible outcome and demonstrably emphasizes how success involving lab-fabricated cases is inexorably tied to the expertise and skills of a dedicated dental laboratory team.
For years, I have been highly involved with the dental laboratory business as a lecturer, consultant, and doctor-technician liaison. And, as a dentist who is also a member of the National Association of Dental Laboratories (NADL), I would like to point out what the NADL is doing to support dental technology and, as a result, the dental profession. Since 2008, The Foundation for Dental Laboratory Technology (The Foundation), a 501(c) (3) organization, has provided thousands of dollars in grants and scholarships to dental technicians who desire to further improve their skills to provide excellence in every aspect of their work. This year, Ivoclar Vivadent and the NADL are collaborating to raise funds for The Foundation with a chance to win “The Spirit of the Esthetic Revolution”—a 1995 Harley-Davidson Softail Classic motorcycle donated by Ivoclar Vivadent. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased online at dentallabfoundation.org/ticket from now until 4:00 pm Pacific Time on January 18, 2019. For every 4 tickets purchased, participants will get a fifth ticket free! One winning ticket will be selected in a random drawing from all tickets purchased at the 2019 NADL Vision 21 Meeting, to be held from January 16 to January 19, 2019, in Las Vegas, Nev. I hope that you will consider supporting this worthy cause!
Please enjoy this exciting issue of Dentistry Today!
