Celebrating three decades of transformative innovation in orthodontics, SureSmile continues to lead the industry with groundbreaking solutions that enhance the experience for both clinicians and patients. Since 1994, SureSmile has been at the forefront of digital dentistry in orthodontics, continually evolving to meet the needs of dental professionals and patients alike.

SureSmile’s story began with a breakthrough that combined the world’s first wire-bending system, developed by OraMetrix, with innovative treatment planning software and a 2D/3D intraoral camera. Another major step forward came in 2008, when SureSmile became the first system to integrate CBCT data into its treatment planning software. This innovation gave orthodontists the ability to plan treatments with a full view of a patient’s oral anatomy, considering both tooth alignment and the surrounding bone structure for a more comprehensive approach.

That momentum continued in 2015 with the launch of advanced features such as Doctor Designed Treatment Planning, the Indirect Bonding System, and Interdisciplinary Planning, further optimizing treatment workflows and enabling more advanced treatment possibilities. In 2018, SureSmile introduced SureSmile® Clear Aligners, marking an expansion of its portfolio to meet the growing demand among patients for customizable clear aligner solutions.

In 2021, the launch of SureSmile VPro, a high-frequency vibration device, further enhanced the patient experience.

When used with orthodontic treatment for just five minutes a day, the device delivers gentle vibrations that may reduce discomfort1,2,3 and improve aligner tracking. Most recently, in 2023, the introduction of SureSmile Simulator4, powered by DS Core, Dentsply Sirona’s cloud platform—allows patients to preview their future smiles during consultations, facilitating communication with their clinician and giving them greater confidence in their treatment decisions.5

“Malocclusion is a prevalent oral health issue that can impact a person’s overall health and quality of life. Misaligned teeth affect not only dental health but also a person’s self-esteem, confidence, and social interactions,” said Chris Schlenk, group vice president of orthodontic aligner solutions at Dentsply Sirona. “Dentsply Sirona is dedicated to transforming dentistry to improve oral health worldwide. With SureSmile, we are committed to supporting both patients and healthcare providers in the orthodontic field, addressing the critical need for effective and accessible solutions.”

“SureSmile has completely transformed how we approach orthodontic treatment,” said Dr. Angelica Iglesias, an orthodontist in Barcelona, Spain, who treats patients with SureSmile. “The precision and customization allow me to create treatment plans tailored to each patient’s unique needs, leading to better outcomes and more efficient treatments. As the oldest digital orthodontic software on the market, SureSmile has proven to be a pioneer in the industry, continuously evolving and providing us with innovative tools that truly enhance patient care and streamline the orthodontic process.”

As SureSmile celebrates its 30th anniversary, the commitment to innovation remains strong, with a focus on developing future solutions that improve clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. From custom-bent wires to digital treatment planning, to clear aligners and beyond, SureSmile continues to shape the future of orthodontics.
