Featured prominently in The Inner Circle, Dr. Jean Kathleen B. Cala, DDS, is recognized as a Pinnacle Platinum Healthcare Professional for her significant contributions to the field of dentistry. Dr. Cala embarked on her educational journey at Odessa College, graduating Summa Cum Laude with three associate degrees. She then pursued a bachelor of science in biology from the University of Texas, Permian Basin in 2017. Continuing her education, she attended Texas A&M College of Dentistry, earning her doctorate in dental surgery (DDS). She highlights that her time there equipped her with the skills to promote healthier smiles and overall lifestyles for her patients.
Hailing from an agricultural province in the Philippines, Dr. Cala completed high school at the Immaculate Conception Child Development Center. She also attended the University of the Philippines Manila College of Dentistry for a period before relocating with her family to West Texas in 2013. Settling in Pecos, Dr. Cala recalls the warm reception they received and expressed her desire to return to West Texas after dental school to serve her local community.
In August 2022, Dr. Cala joined the Dental Group of Lubbock. Despite having other medical professionals in her family, she is the first to venture into dentistry. Dr. Cala notes that The Dental Group of Lubbock comprises all female dentists, and her patients appreciate her composed demeanor. She has since established her own practice called Willow Dentistry, where she assists patients with dental anxiety to achieve relaxation and comfort. She takes pleasure in collaborating with the community to guide children towards good oral health practices.
During her school years, Dr. Cala dedicated her free time to volunteer work at community centers, clinics, and the animal shelter. She also led a multicultural volunteering organization. Beyond her professional life, she has a passion for traveling to small towns, engaging in sewing projects, and cultivating gardens. She eagerly anticipates engaging with and serving the Lubbock community as their general dentist.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Dr. Cala nurtures hobbies such as gardening and crafting miniatures, including dollhouses. She is actively involved in RISE V, a volunteer community program focused on contributing to various aspects of the community.
